Radhanagar Beach, also called Beach No. 7, lies on the west coast of Swaraj Dweep, the island still widely known as Havelock. Its broad sweep of pale sand faces the Bay of Bengal; dense tropical forest forms the backdrop rather than a strip of beachfront development.

The beach is about 12 km from Havelock Jetty. It is a destination for swimming, walking and sunset rather than an all-purpose water-sports beach. Snorkelling and diving sites are available elsewhere around the island, not directly off this shore.

What to do

The essential experience is simple:

• Swim in the signed recreational area when conditions allow.
• Walk the shoreline: the beach is wide and suited to an unhurried walk along the waterline.
• Use the forest shade behind the sand for a break from the midday sun.
• Stay for sunset: the west-facing coast gives the beach its best late-day view.

Radhanagar received Blue Flag certification, reflected in its managed swimming and visitor facilities. This is a beach to enjoy at a measured pace, not a place to expect jet skis, diving boats or a busy commercial strip on the sand.

Getting there

Reach Swaraj Dweep by ferry from Port Blair; the crossing generally takes around 1.5 to 2.5 hours. From Havelock Jetty, continue by road to the beach. Taxis, local transport and hired two-wheelers are the practical options for the 12 km journey.

If you are travelling from Neil Island, ferry connections to Havelock are also available. Build in enough time for the return journey: Radhanagar is especially worthwhile late in the day, while inter-island transport follows fixed schedules.

Timing and facilities

October to May is the most reliable period for calm seas and beach time. Monsoon months, roughly June to September, bring heavier rain and can limit swimming and ferry travel.

Toilets, changing rooms, showers and bins are grouped near the entrance and parking area. Small vendors are kept near the parking zone, leaving the main shore comparatively open. Bring a reusable water bottle and sun protection; shade is mainly at the forest edge.

Swimming and beach rules

Use only the marked safe zone and follow lifeguard instructions, flags and posted warnings. Conditions can change even when the water looks calm. Do not swim after dark or enter restricted eco-sensitive sections.

Keep the beach clean: use bins, avoid disposable plastic and leave shells, coral and marine life where they are. Stay on public paths at the forest edge; protected areas are not shortcuts or picnic grounds.
