F-6, Islamabad
F-6 is a planned residential sector in northern Islamabad, below the Margalla Hills. Its practical centre is F-6 Markaz—usually called Super Market—a compact shopping and service district.
Read the sector
F-6 is one of Islamabad’s planned neighbourhood sectors: a large, roughly square residential area divided into F-6/1, F-6/2, F-6/3 and F-6/4. The commercial centre, F-6 Markaz, sits near the middle; most visitors know it as Super Market.
The sector makes Islamabad’s grid easy to understand. Major roads define the outer edges, while quieter internal streets lead through homes, schools, small parks and local markets. Treat F-6 as a neighbourhood to explore at street level rather than a single monument.
Start at Super Market
F-6 Markaz is the most useful first stop for everyday needs: shops, cafés, restaurants, banks and other services cluster around its low-rise commercial blocks. It is compact enough to cover on foot, though parking and traffic concentrate here more than on the residential lanes.
Use the Markaz as your orientation point, then branch out:
- F-6/1: the southwest subsection, with Farooqia Market.
- F-6/2: northwest, where Firdous Market serves the local area.
- F-6/3: northeast, with Kohsar Market and several parks.
- F-6/4: southeast, with Abbas Market and a second-hand furniture market.
These smaller markets are functional local stops, not extensions of the central shopping strip. Their value is in seeing how the sector distributes daily services beyond the Markaz.
Walking and local streets
Walk the commercial centre and the nearby blocks, but do not expect a continuous tourist promenade. F-6 is primarily residential, and its appeal lies in the contrast between the compact Markaz and broad, tree-lined local streets.
School Road is a useful reference near the commercial core. Margalla Road marks the northern side toward the hills, while Agha Khan Road and Nazim-ud-Din Road help frame the southern half. Addresses use the subsection number, so confirm whether a destination is in F-6/1, /2, /3 or /4 before setting off.
A practical stop
The sector works best for a meal, errands, a short walk and a close look at Islamabad’s planned urban form. For sport, the multipurpose ground at F-6 Markaz has tennis, football and basketball facilities, with operating hours listed as 06:00–22:00.
Use a car or ride-hailing service for arrivals and for moving between distant corners of the sector; walking is most efficient once you are in or near Super Market. Keep residential streets quiet and avoid treating private houses or diplomatic premises as visitor sites.
