Bujairi Terrace, Diriyah
Bujairi Terrace is a pedestrian dining and shopping district in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, on the eastern side of Wadi Hanifah. Its Najdi-inspired buildings face the historic At-Turaif district across the valley.
What it is
Bujairi Terrace is the contemporary food-and-retail quarter of Diriyah. It opened in December 2022 and brings restaurants, cafés and boutiques into a purpose-built, pedestrian-only setting on the edge of Wadi Hanifah.
This is not the historic quarter itself. Its value is the viewpoint: terraces look across the wadi towards At-Turaif’s mud-brick architecture, while the district supplies the meal, coffee or pause before or after exploring Diriyah.
Read the architecture
The development uses a contemporary interpretation of Najdi architecture, rather than a generic mall format. Look for thick earth-toned walls, flat roofs, stepped and triangular parapets, shaded passages and courtyards. Local stone, straw and clay were incorporated into its material palette.
The layout keeps vehicles and servicing largely out of sight, leaving the upper level for walking, outdoor tables and views. Take a complete circuit before choosing a table; the wadi-facing edge is the defining part of the site.
Eating and shopping
The dining mix ranges from Saudi cooking to international restaurant and café brands. Current venues and menus change, but the practical choice is simple:
- For a short stop: choose a café, pastry shop or casual daytime restaurant.
- For a Saudi meal: look for the Saudi-category restaurants rather than assuming every menu is local.
- For the view: request outdoor or wadi-facing seating when making a restaurant reservation.
- For browsing: boutiques are integrated among the dining venues rather than grouped in a separate shopping mall.
Bujairi Terrace is a dining destination, so expect restaurant-level prices rather than a food-court budget.
Timing and access
The district opens from 9am to midnight Saturday to Tuesday, and until 1am Wednesday to Friday. Late afternoon is the most useful time to arrive: there is daylight for the architecture and the wadi, then the view changes after At-Turaif is illuminated.
Access arrangements can vary by season. An access pass has applied at certain times, while other periods have had complimentary entry. Restaurant reservations and access are separate matters; confirm the current entry arrangement before travelling.
Arrival and mobility
Use Bujairi Terrace as the destination in a taxi, ride-hailing app or navigation system. For drivers, Bujairi and Samhan parking are the relevant facilities; parking and valet terms differ. Samhan parking is charged hourly, while valet conditions depend on time and restaurant spend.
The district is designed for walking. Wear stable shoes for the paving and allow time to move between restaurants, overlooks and boutiques. Accessible facilities are provided, and visitors may bring their own wheelchair; a limited number of wheelchairs can be requested in advance.
