Fisketorvet Harbour Bath
Fisketorvet is a free harbour bath at Kalvebod Brygge in Copenhagen, between the Fisketorvet shopping centre and Havneholmen. Its separate lap, diving and toddler pools make it a practical place for a harbour swim rather than a beach stop.
Orientation
Fisketorvet Harbour Bath sits in Gasværkshavnen on Copenhagen’s western harbourfront, at Kalvebod Brygge 55. It is immediately beside the Fisketorvet shopping centre and Havneholmen, with Islands Brygge visible across the water. This is a compact, built-up quay rather than a park setting: decks, pontoons and pool barriers keep bathers apart from harbour traffic.
The bath opened in 2002 and is one of the city’s designated places for swimming in the harbour. Admission is free.
The pools
Three separate basins give the small facility a clear purpose:
- Exercise pool: a 50-metre, 12.5-metre-wide pool for lengths.
- Diving pool: fitted with platforms at 1, 2 and 3 metres.
- Toddler pool: a shallow, fixed-bottom pool, 0.6 metres deep.
The arrangement is useful for mixed groups: lap swimmers, jumpers and young children do not have to share one stretch of water. A freshwater shower operates in the summer season; toilets are inside the adjacent shopping centre.
Getting there
Havneholmen metro station is the closest stop, about a five-minute walk away. The bath is also easy to reach by bike along the harbour and on foot from the Dybbølsbro area. The address is useful for navigation: Kalvebod Brygge 55, 1560 Copenhagen V.
Arrive ready to swim rather than expecting a full indoor-pool setup. The site is directly connected to the waterfront, shopping centre and surrounding streets, so it works well as a short swim within a day in Vesterbro or along the harbour.
Hours and safe swimming
The harbour bath is open daily from 06:00 to 22:00 throughout the year. Lifeguards are on duty daily from 1 June to 31 August, 10:00–18:00.
Important: swim only inside the marked bath. Harbour swimming outside designated baths and bathing zones is not permitted. Water quality can temporarily deteriorate after heavy rain; a warning light or red flag signals that swimming is prohibited. Follow on-site notices and lifeguard directions.
