Why it matters

Manufaktura occupies the former textile works of Izrael Poznański, developed from the 1870s near Ogrodowa and Zachodnia streets. The complex retains the buildings of a complete textile-production chain: spinning mill, weaving mill and finishing works. Industrial production ended in the 1990s; the site reopened in its present form in 2006.

This is not a single museum or a conventional mall. Treat it as a large post-industrial quarter whose historic brick architecture contains shops, restaurants, a cinema, museums and public space.

Find your bearings

The grounds fill the block between Ogrodowa, Zachodnia, Drewnowska and Jana Karskiego. The address used for the complex is Drewnowska 58.

Start at the central square, then look beyond the contemporary storefronts: long red-brick façades, large mill windows and former service buildings reveal the scale of the original factory. The former power-station building on the square is a useful landmark.

Best cultural stops

Muzeum Fabryki is the essential historical stop. In a former textile-printing building, its displays explain the Poznański works, textile production and the lives of the people who worked here. Historic machinery and a viewing terrace put the surrounding complex in context.

The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00–18:00, and closed Monday. A standard ticket costs 18 zł from September 2026; the terrace can also be visited with a separate ticket.

ms², at Ogrodowa 19, occupies a former weaving mill. It presents the Muzeum Sztuki collection of twentieth- and twenty-first-century art across several floors. Its industrial shell is part of the visit, not merely the setting. The main entrance faces the Manufaktura square and the building has lift access.

Eating, shopping and downtime

The central square and converted workshops hold cafés and restaurants, while the enclosed galleries carry the retail offer. Use Manufaktura for a meal or a pause between Łódź’s industrial-heritage sights rather than trying to treat every part as an attraction.

Seasonal installations and events use the square, so its appearance and atmosphere can change markedly. The permanent draw is the architecture: walk the outer edges as well as the interior passages.

Getting there

The complex itself has no general admission charge or reservation requirement. Trams 2, 3, 11A and 11B stop on Zachodnia near Manufaktura; buses also serve the Drewnowska and Ogrodowa sides. On foot, it is a straightforward continuation north-west from the central streets of Łódź.

Allow at least an hour for the architectural walk; add time separately for Muzeum Fabryki or ms².
